Metamorphosis

Not long ago, my best friend became a butterfly.
Before she flew away, she had me to dinner
and served me all her favorite foods.
And there among the cake and casserole,
cheese and crackers and purple-flavored Kool-aid,
I asked her how it had happened.

How She Kept the Baby Quiet
When She Fled

how she kept the baby quiet --
when she stole from the compound
as she slipped from the halter
after chewing through the tether
where the reins were attached --

Signs of a Better World

It is my familiarity with demons
That allows me to see Angels
And I see them everywhere
Wearing gossamer over ice-blue body suits
Knitting together the cosmos
Singing the music of the spheres
